Petite Fashion Challenge #7: The Little Black Dress

It's my first Petite Fashion Challenge and I'm super excited. I have mentioned in a previous post that my biggest weakness is accessorizing so nothing can be more fitting than this! Jessy of The Little Dust Princess challenged us to "add a pop of colour to your LBD to change up its look and make your dress a little less boring."

Here I am in a plain old black dress...
Looks downright depressing ehh?
Since work is the one place you'll most likely see me in an LBD, I thought I would style it for just that. I started out with a brown belt to cinch the waist and base all my other accessories around it...so pretty much all warm tones...

Jacket: Club Monaco, Size 0
Dress: H & M, Size 4
Lace Pumps: Ann Taylor, Size 5
Belt: Ann Taylor
Necklace: Ann Taylor
Handbag: Louis Vuitton
Who doesn't love a little controversy at work right?? So these playful lacy pumps already got some whispers at the office but I don't care lol. They're oh so comfortable and I get compliments every single time I wear them. Alright, I'm not sure if I did a decent job meeting this challenge or if my dress actually "pops," but I guess it's good enough for work. Now that I look at it, I want to change so many things! I'm not even wearing any rings or bracelets. Just completely forgot. That's how noob I am when it comes to accessorizing. Ok, I shall post sticky notes all over my mirrors to remind myself...

Bye bye lovelies, that's me heading to work. Until the next challenge...

Fun Weekend Outfit

My weekend outfits are usually super casual and comfy because I'm pretty low maitenance when it comes to dressing for fun. However, I'm trying to keep in mind that comfy and slouchy do not have to go together. I wore this bright and happy ensemble to run around town this past weekend without breaking a sweat.

Top: J Crew
Skirt + Belt: Forever 21 (buy)
Shoes: Nine West
Clutch: Asos (buy), Ring: H&M

This skirt is so cute for spring/summer wear but it's 50% linen so it wrinkles after a couple of hours. I opted for nude low heels because those high pumps are meant for the office! Although I'm ok at walking in heels, I definitely do not wear them when I know I will be on my feet for more than a few hours. Oh and the cheapie yellow clutch? I'm completely obsessed!

I really wanted to go shopping but no time because I was too busy...eating. So dead serious. Both days. But I guess those are the best days...as long as I don't step on a scale. Time to detox this week so when the weekend comes around, I can be a pig all over again. Boy oh boy, what a fun cycle! :D

Alright, since I didn't get to shop this weekend, time for some online browsing now! Yayyy lol...

Do you like dressing for warmer weather? Because I DO!!!

Monday Work Look + Cardigan Unenthusiasm

I used to hate shopping for work clothes because nothing would fit me off the rack. Thanks to the petite community, I have been introduced to Ann Taylor & LOFT where I have had much luck. Today's work outfit features the scuba pencil skirt, one of my very first LOFT purchases a few months ago...

Cardigan: J Crew, XXS
Blouse: Forever 21, XS
Skirt: LOFT Scuba Skirt, P00
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Prorata's (buy)
Handbag: Chanel Black Caviar Jumbo
Pearl Necklace: eBay; Bracelets: Forever 21 (buy)

I adore the details on the back of this pencil skirt. Looks much more interesting than the regular back vent slit, right? ;)

Ok, onto the cardigan. I must be in the very small minority that dislike cardigans. I have loved it on bloggers everywhere but they just don't look right on me. Perhaps it's because I like to wear them strictly as a light outerwear layer, which equates to no tucking and no belting. What little curves I have is completetly swallowed and I end up looking so frumpy urghh! I am on the look out for slightly tapered/slim waisted cardigans to wear as is, so please do share if you come across any. In the mean time, I'll stick with my lightweight cropped jackets until I find something that can convert me into a cardigan lover. That's me down there looking aimlessly and saying "perfect cardigan, where art thou?" lol...

Oh I'm only 5'2 so some would say that the Chanel jumbo is kinda big on me. But I love it because I use it as a work purse, and I love carrying around a small book just in case I have down time for leisure reading so it suits me perfectly! ;)

Have a lovely first day of the week, ladies!

Trouser Shorts

I never thought I could wear shorts without looking like a total beach bum! Enter these trouser shorts and my life is changed forever. Since acquiring these, I have been on the hunt for more "dress shorts" to add to my summer wardrobe. Although I still prefer skirts/dresses, sometimes the occasion calls for something more comfy and street chic. Dinner date, here I come. :P

Lace Top: Prada, purchased from Ebay
Trouser Shorts: Forever 21 (recent)
Handbag: Louis Vuitton, Suhali leather
Shoes: Badgley Mischka, Olaf booties (buy)
Necklace & Bracelet: Boutique; Ring: Forever 21

To keep the casual but not so casual theme going, I opted for a lace top instead of a t-shirt. This top is one of my favorite purchases from eBay years ago. This blogging thing is really pushing me to reach for much loved but long forgotten pieces in my closet. Take this LV purse for example. It litterally took me months (years?) of savings to bring this beauty home, yet it's been sitting in the dust bag for the longest time. I know, I know...sowwie little pursie, I promise to bring you out to play more often.

I absolutely adore the booties trend and I'm hoping I can incorporate them into more outfits. I wonder if they're work appropriate? What do you think? Will I get called into HR's office for wearing them? :P (I have had some extreme conservative co-workers commented on my shoes before!)

Are you loving the comfy dress shorts? Would you wear them proudly to dinner?

Crisp White Dress

I love dresses. Especially white ones. They are definitely a staple in my wardrobe (must be because I own at least 5 different styles). I think white dresses can exude an innocent yet understatedly sexy vibe at the same time. All I know is, every time I put on a white dress, I feel my day just got a little brighter.

I wanted to bring home this dress with eyelet details the moment I laid eyes on it. And course, I did! (Bf forgot to bring the dsrl camera so my little point-and-shoot doesn't capture the details very clearly grrrr.) Oh it also has an exposed zipper and pockets. I heart dresses with pockets.

Dress: BCBG
Clutch: Asos, buy here
Bracelet: Claire's, Ring: Forever 21
Shoes: BCBG

I own several BCBG dresses even though its smallest size is slightly big on me. If I *really* like something, I'll find a way to make it work. For instance, this dress has a boat neck and the wide sleeves kept falling off my shoulders every few minutes. I was tired of adjusting them (but was mostly terrified that others might be seeing a little too much of my goods lol); so I searched my brain for a solution. I bought some elastic crochet/lace trim and hand-sewn it on the back to prevent more slips (see picture below). Voila, no more flashing the world! It's not perfect, but I rarely ever wear my hair up so it's not visible anyway.

I've been quite obsessed with oversized clutches lately. To me, it's a trendy item and I wasn't willing to shell out the cash for something that might not last me for years and years to come. I searched high and low for a clutch...not just any clutch...but a bright yellow one to jazz up my outfits. I was ecstatic when I stumbled upon this cheapie item at Asos for $26.90 + 20% off. I was a bit nervous of the neon yellow shown on the website, but in person, it's more of a mustard yellow which is even better. Yayyy!

Oh random tip if you've ever had yellow armpit stains on your pretty white clothes (yuck huh?): mix a little bit of hydrogen peroxide with a bit of baking soda, rub it on the stained area for a few minutes and wash as usual. I promise it works like a charm! So clever, I tell ya. :P

Happy Monday everyone! :)

A Day at the Park

It finally feels like spring around here! For me, warm weather = picnics at the park and late night walks on the beach. These pictures were taken a few months back when I first thought about blogging. Yes, it took me that long to finally pull the trigger! In honor of moi actually starting a blog, I thought I would share them just for fun...

Top: H&M
Skirt: Alloy
Shoes: Nine West
My boyfriend got me this adorable bike so we can ride around together in the summer. I am the absolute worst when it comes to physical activities so we'll see how many times that happens lol.

Oh yeah...I'm terrified of showing my face on the world wide web so this is probably the most you'll ever see of me. :D I can't wait to be 100% again so I can run around and enjoy this beautiful weather.

What do you like to do when it's nice and warm outside? :)

Seeing Red

I've been sick. So sick that I feel like I'm hallucinating sometimes. But I also feel guilty for neglecting this little blog so I managed to get out of bed for a whole 5 minutes to take some pictures of what I would have worn today if I went to work. (We have a color theme going on this week and today is of course, red.) This blogging stuff is serious bizness. :P

Skirt: Ann Taylor, Size P0 (runs small, waist=12.25'')
Shirt: Ann Taylor LOFT, Size PXXS

Turquoise Necklace: Boutique
Ring: H&M
You might have seen this same skirt on Jean of Extra Petite and Elle of Fast Food and Fast Fashion. Originally, I ordered a P00 but it was soooo tiny so I exchanged for a P0. There is definitely sizing inconsistency as I have other skirts from Ann Taylor in size P00 that have bigger waist measurements than this P0.

Although the fit around the waist is ok, hips and other areas are somewhat roomy. You can see the bunchiness as I move around. It's not perfect but it's a welcome splash of color to my wardrobe.

When I first thought about blogging, bf promised to be my photographer...except we haven't had time to see each other for at least a couple of weeks. I suck at taking self photos so I can't wait to have my photographer around! I promise his pictures will look much better than my sorry attempts. :D

Ok I'm out. I hope you're feeling better than I am at the moment. Cheers!

Red Velvet Cakester

The weather is expected to be gloomy and rainy today. What better way to warm yourself up than to bake the night away with your loved ones? I’ve been addicted to red velvet cake since learning that Jessica Simpson served it at her wedding (to Nick Lachey, of course). I used this recipe for red velvet sandwich cookies from Bakerella. The only modification I made was to use 1 cup (instead of 1 lb.) confectioner sugar for the cream cheese filling.

To jazz things up a bit, I used a cookie cutter to cut them into heart shapes before assembling. After taking the cookies out of the oven, let them cool for about 3 minutes then proceed with the cookie cutter. Don't let them sit for too long as the cookies will harden and will easily crumble upon cutting.

These leftover cookie rings are so yummm to munch on. :)

The finished product...

Wishing everyone a wonderful and warm weekend! <3

Review: Christian Louboutin

I’ve been craving a pair of black patent Simple Pump 85 since I was born! What, you don’t believe me? :D I’ve tried hunting down these “red shoes” (that’s what bf calls them) for almost a year now...but gosh, they are impossible to come by! To date, I have pulled the trigger a total of FOUR times; yet, there have been zero contenders until today…maybe.

The first three tries: same size, same style, different heel heights
The first pair, Simple Pump 70, fits my foot like a glove but the heel was too low. Let’s admit it ladies, we pay the premium price to see that flash of red sole, so limited view of red sole = no go. The second pair, Simple Pump 85, (couldn’t find patent so I opted for napa leather), was soooooo freaking narrow! To make matters worse, it was also half an inch too big!!! The third pair, Simple Pump 100, fits similar to the first pair. However, when I received these “brand new” shoes, the leather in the back heel was kind of crinkled and it broke my heart to look at them. The store offered me 10% discount but that wasn’t enough for me to keep them. I plan to wear these shoes to work often so the 100mm is a little too high to stand on all day long. I’m just about to give up on these “red shoes” forever. Sike!!! :P

And here is my number four…

Introducing: the Prorata 90mm. When I first saw the Prorata, it didn't really appeal to me because I'm not a big fan of platform. As I look for alternatives to the Simple Pump, it started to grow on me more and more each day...

Prorata also features an almond/round toe, similar to that of Simple Pump. The main differences are: Prorata has a 1/2 inch platform, and the heel is thinner and curvier compared to Simple Pump. Oh yah, it's also more pricey.

Here are some pictures of me wearing these lovelies. They are a tad bit big on me but nothing a couple of heel cushions won't fix. They're very comfortable, dare I say even more comfortable than the Simple Pump!

I love these babies but I'm still on the fence. Ladies, should I keep the Prorata or continue to hunt for my Simple Pump?

Under the California Sun

I love the sun; I love flowers; and I loveee this dress. These pictures are truly happiness in a bottle for me. Who wouldn't be all giddy looking at fields and fields of bright and cheerful ranunculus? If you are in Southern California, now is the perfect time to visit the flower fields in Carlsbad. You can come here for more information.

I got this sundress at an LA boutique for a mere $5!!! Yes, you heard that right. Originally it was over $100, on sale for $50. I had a $50 promotional certificate so I only paid for tax. The dress was the last one of its kind and even though it is a little roomy on me, I think it works because sundresses do not have to be so fitted.

I hope these pictures bring a little sunshine to your day too. :)

Casual Friday

My company doesn't really have a casual Friday, but once in a while I try to sneak in wearing jeans. The trick is to choose a dark wash because it looks a tad less casual, and of course, a dressy top. I love this romantic top with pleats, crochet details, and big sleeves. (I apologize for the bad quality photos, I realize after taking these photos that the resolution was set really low, therefore I can't zoom in on the details grrrr.)

Wearing BCBG Top XXS, AE Jeggings 00, Nine West Ambitious Pumps Size 5

My biggest weakness is accessorizing. I was debating whether I should add some pearls or perhaps a dainty necklace to complete the outfit. But...I wasn't sure so I ended up with just a big ring on my finger. I was afraid it would look too busy with more jewelry. Please HELP!!!
