A "Tall" Petite

Blazer: BCBG (more than half of my BCBG stuff are from eBay)
Top: Ann Taylor; Skirt: LOFT
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Prorata
Purse: Chanel Jumbo
Watch: Omega; Rings: H&M

Prior to finding the petite community, I've always felt like I'm the shortest/scrawniest person in this world. I was so self-conscious of my stature that I even "lied" about my weight on my driver license...putting me at 5 lbs. heavier than I really was. Most of it didn't come within as I'm a pretty confident person; but hearing those comments from extended family members, peers, co-workers etc... do get to me after a while. I guess I was really skinny which makes for an easy target. At one point during my undergrad years, I weighed 78 lbs. standing at 5 feet 2 inches tall. I couldn't gain weight no matter how much I eat and eat and eat... (I wish I could say the same now lol.)

Since then, I have gained a few (a lot actually haha) so the skinny part isn't so much an issue anymore. Moreover...I now realize that at 5'2, my height actually ranks me as one of the medium-taller petites. I feel so fortunate that my pencil skirts always hit above the knees and I rarely have to hem pants (money saved). Some inseams are actually short on me; for example, the infamous petite Gap legging jeans (made popular by the lovely Jean of Extra Petite). I had to go with regular sizing because P00 barely hit my ankles! Now only if companies would stop offering such ginormous pieces as their smallest sizings, because overall fit is still an issue. I definitely feel for you ladies that are smaller than I am. Shopping must be so difficult (but I hope it's at least fun).

I'm so thankful I've found a community that understands what I've gone through as a "small" person. I'm sure many of us have it worse. Now I can truly say that I embrace my petite-ness, flaws and all! Kinda proud of it, actually. ;)

  1. Ahh, I remember the days of eating whatever (and doing nothing) while still staying super skinny. I'm 5'2" too but have always had to hem - you're so lucky to have long legs!! Loving the photos of you with your niece - just precious!

  2. I almost missed that you have two different blazers on in these pictures! Hahaha, I'm totally the same way (I have four cardigans from H&M in the same style in all different colors and three from BR in the same style, different colors).

  4. 5'2!!! I would KILL for that!! Hahaha. Kidding!! But, having an extra 2 inches would definitely be nice! (That means I could have more leeway with the eating!! Muahahaha!) Glad that you are celebrating your tall-petiteness! :)

  5. Ahhh... would you mind sharing when your metabolism started slowing down? Because I'm starting to feel like I'm reaching that soon, hahaha. Darn getting old! If only parts of us stayed young forever :)

Cee: hmmm i actually started gaining a little more weight about 6 months ago :( before that i was at 95 lbs for years and years. now i'm about 103? i think my perfect weight is 98 so i gotta lose those 5 lbs haha. without disclosing my exact age, i'm in my late twenties hehehehe... ;) and i detest working out. bf told me he'll reward me for working out & i flat out said no to that hahaha...

  7. Lol! I love this niche community as well. I was so happy to have met some fellow bloggers while in CA. I felt HUGE and tall! Jen of frmheadtotoe, Kelly of AlterationsNeeded, Liane of Petite XXS...I tower over all those ladies. Wendy is about my height but was still much tinier in person than I expected.

The Gap legging jeans are getting way too short. I picked up a second pair as a backup, and they were not long enough for me. Not even long enough for a 5 foot tall girl...what are they supposed to be, capris on "taller" petites?

  8. i love how blogging has connected me to so many petite women out there with the same problems i have! i don't have the problem of being really thin though- i'm just really short (just exactly 5 feet). but it's inspiring to see all of you love your bodies and be creative with outfits!

  10. Jean: omg imagine me standing next to you ladies, i'll really feel like a *giant* for the first time haha. yes, shame about the Gap "jeggings"...i opted for regular sizing to get that extra length but had to shrink the heck out of it for a good fit.

Petite and Hungry: i'm definitely inspired by the ladies. i'm less lazy when it comes to putting together an outfit now hehe...

Katherine: aww thank you, Kat! what are you talking about, i'm sure you look wonderful in suits! pix please :)

  11. I'm a "taller" petite too! Standing a bit under 5'2" (I think). Those gap legging jeans I had to get in the 00R - I think I tried the petite and not only were they short but they were tight LOL!
